In life's race, compete against yourself, primarily. Don't be too concerned with how well other people run. That athlete runs best who looks straight ahead. That athlete wins the most who improves on his own record.
How valuable, really, is other people's admiration? You aren't central in their lives. Much of the praise they heap on you today they may retract tomorrow. Seek to shine brightly before your own conscience.
